Welcoming The Last 10 Nights of Ramadan

Today is the first of the Last 10 Days of Ramadan – the third Ashra of Ramadan has begun.

Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) reported: “The Prophet (saw) used to strive hard (in worship) in the last ten nights of Ramadan as he never did at any other time.” Sahih

It is during these 10 nights that we seek Laylatul Qadr, the Night of Power.

On this night, the reward of any good deed you do will be counted as if you did that good deed for at least 83 years. During these odd nights, we think of Allah (SWT), the One who loves us more than we can imagine. The One who has more mercy than that of a mother to her child.

A mother will do anything for her child. She will put her child’s needs before her own. Her child’s well being before her own. She will protect her child with her life. Allah (SWT) loves us more than that. His love is beyond our imagination. Yet he compares His mercy to that of a mother to her child.

Yet there are mothers who suffer because they are unable to give all that they can for their children.

Over 60% of our Primary Care Center patients are women and children. The Maternal, Neonatal, Child Health (MNCH) Program has been an integral part of the PCP and is of an utmost priority of IHHN. As of last year:

  • Around 170,000 children were immunized
  • 27,000 women of reproductive age were immunized with tetanus toxoid.
  • 11,500 women were provided with family planning services, and
  • 13,000 children were enrolled in the nutrition program.

Yet there are still thousands more who need assistance. These numbers don’t just show our success; it also reveals just how many women and children there are that need these services, and were unable to receive them due to cost or inaccessibility.

On these odd nights, let’s give mothers a chance at a happy motherhood. Let’s find the mercy in ourselves, so that it can be passed forward.

Ramadan is almost over. But it’s not too late to reap the rewards of Ramadan.
