When Nok Kundi’s newest mother arrived at the Community Health Centre in active labor, fear was written across her face. Her blood pressure was dangerously high, and her baby was in a breech position which made each second all the more important.
Just as a transfer was being arranged, everything changed. Fully dilated and unable to wait, she was guided through a high-risk breech delivery by a calm, skilled team who refused to let the odds win. Her baby breathed within the first minute of life.
“When I arrived, I was so scared, I could feel something was wrong. But the staff never left my side. Before this centre was built, we had to travel very far for help. Now, my child and I are both alive and healthy. I am forever thankful.”
Even after delivery, complications with a retained placenta meant the team’s work wasn’t over. They stabilized her and ensured she reached specialist care safely. Eventually, she recovered fully.
Her story is one of 83 successful deliveries under this programme, a part of nearly 100,000 medical services delivered to some of Balochistan’s most remote communities.
“Distance from a major city should never mean a compromise on quality of care,” says Dr. Nabeela Shahid of IHHN. “This case is exactly why we invest so heavily in training our teams, to save lives in even the most isolated corners of Balochistan.”
For one mother and her child, that investment meant everything.
