A Desperate Cry for Change

In Pakistan, the rates of infant and maternal mortality remain alarmingly high. 54 out of 1,000 newborns and 186 out of 100,000 mothers lose their lives during childbirth. The grim reality extends to maternal nutrition indicators, where 42% of women of reproductive age (WRA) suffer from anemia while 79.7% have Vitamin D deficiency. The triple burden of malnutrition—undernutrition, overweight/obesity, and micronutrient deficiencies—casts a shadow over the health of new mothers and their infants.

Nourishing Lives

In response to this crisis, IHHN has launched the 'NourishMom' Nutrition Program, a beacon of hope for new mothers. This initiative ensures both medical and nutritional support, addressing the critical need for maternal health and well-being during and after pregnancy. Families enrolled in the program receive monthly Ration Bags for 12 months. For the first 6 months, pregnant women receive these bags to ensure proper nutrition until delivery. After childbirth, the support continues with Ration Bags for an additional 6 months, fostering breastfeeding and preventing infant malnutrition.
