A Desperate Cry for Change
In Pakistan, maternal mortality remains high at about 186 deaths per 100,000 live births. Infant mortality is also a serious concern: recent data place the rate at roughly 50-56 deaths per 1,000 live births. Among women of reproductive age, anaemia affects about 42-46%, and vitamin D deficiency is extremely common — in many studies 60-80% of women show deficient levels. The country is grappling with the triple burden of malnutrition: persistent under-nutrition, rising overweight/obesity and widespread micronutrient deficiencies — all of which impact the health of mothers and infants.

IHHN’S IMPACT
Nourishing Lives
In response to this crisis, IHHN has launched the 'NourishMom' Nutrition Program, a beacon of hope for new mothers. This initiative ensures both medical and nutritional support, addressing the critical need for maternal health and well-being during and after pregnancy. Families enrolled in the program receive monthly Ration Bags for 12 months. For the first 6 months, pregnant women receive these bags to ensure proper nutrition until delivery. After childbirth, the support continues with Ration Bags for an additional 6 months, fostering breastfeeding and preventing infant malnutrition.
