Every year on July 28th, the world marks World Hepatitis Day. And every year, an estimated 300 million people continue living with a hepatitis infection they don’t know they have.
That’s not a coincidence. It’s the nature of the disease.
Hepatitis B and C, the two strains responsible for the most serious long-term harm, rarely cause symptoms in their early stages. There is no pain, jaundice or obvious sign that anything is wrong.
Meanwhile, the virus is quietly damaging the liver. Over years, that damage can progress to cirrhosis or liver cancer, conditions that are far harder to treat and, by that point, impossible to reverse.

This is what makes hepatitis different from many chronic conditions, Hepatitis C is now curable.
Modern Direct-Acting Antivirals clear the infection in 8 to 12 weeks, with cure rates above 95%. The treatment is oral and well-tolerated. For most patients, it is transformative. But it only works for patients who have been diagnosed in time.

The test itself is a simple blood draw. Inexpensive, quick, and widely available.
Hepatitis is treatable. In the case of Hepatitis C, it is curable. What stands between most patients and that outcome is a single step, which is knowing that you have the disease.
This World Hepatitis Day, if you haven’t been screened, speak to your doctor. The test takes minutes. What it tells you could change everything.
Embark on a meaningful journey by getting involved in our mission to provide quality healthcare for all. Your involvement can make a significant difference in the lives of those in need. Here’s how you can be a catalyst for change.
