The two-day Cystic Fibrosis Training & Development Workshop at IHHN brought together clinical teams for an intensive session based on learning, discussion, and skill-building, guided by leading CF specialists from Marmara University Hospital, Istanbul.

Dr. Yasemin Gokdemir opened with a session on the management of CF exacerbations, walking participants through evidence-based protocols for identifying, responding to, and monitoring acute episodes, a critical area given how decisively early intervention can shape patient outcomes.

Dr. Gokdemir returned to present on the rapidly evolving landscape of CFTR modulator therapies among the most significant advances in CF treatment in recent years. The session highlighted how these therapies are transforming disease management and what they mean for patients at IHHN.

Dr. Bulent Karadağ addressed the vital but often overlooked role of patient registries in advancing CF care. Drawing on regional and global examples, he demonstrated how systematic data collection drives better clinical decisions, informs policy, and connects local practitioners to the wider global CF community.

Dr. Gokdemir presented an overview of research emerging from the Marmara University CF Center, sharing published studies and key findings that have contributed to the evidence base for CF management. The session offered IHHN’s team a window into what a mature, research-active CF program looks like in practice.
The workshop closed with a forward-looking discussion on upcoming research and clinical initiatives, sparking conversation about potential collaborations between IHHN and the Marmara team.

An open Q&A gave participants the opportunity to engage directly with the visiting faculty. The workshop concluded with a certificate distribution ceremony recognising the dedication and participation of IHHN’s CF staff, a fitting close to two days of meaningful, mission-driven learning.
