Indus Hospital & Health Network (IHHN) has achieved a major milestone in transfusion medicine as two of its professionals earned Team Member status in the AABB Assessor Program. Dr. Shabneez Hussain, Head of Blood Transfusion Services, became the first physician assessor from a Pakistani institution to achieve this level. Joining her is Rabia Majeed, who also completed her training to become an Approved Team Member.
The Association for the Advancement of Blood & Biotherapies (AABB) is a global leader in setting standards for blood banking, transfusion medicine, and cellular therapies. Its accreditation serves as an international benchmark for quality and patient safety. Qualified AABB assessors evaluate facilities worldwide through rigorous on-site evaluations to ensure compliance with these high standards.
This achievement brings world-class blood safety expertise directly to Pakistan, a country that has historically faced limited access to globally recognized quality frameworks. With local professionals participating in international assessment teams, IHHN enhances its capacity to implement and sustain top-tier safety practices.
As the IHHN Karachi Blood Center is already AABB-accredited, this milestone reinforces its commitment to delivering safe, free-of-cost blood to patients. Furthermore, it enables IHHN to mentor other blood banks across Pakistan, raising standards nationwide and expanding access to safe transfusion practices as part of its mission to provide world-class healthcare to all.
Embark on a meaningful journey by getting involved in our mission to provide quality healthcare for all. Your involvement can make a significant difference in the lives of those in need. Here’s how you can be a catalyst for change.
