The Indus Hospital & Health Network (IHHN) recently concluded a landmark two-day international workshop dedicated to advancing the clinical management of Cystic Fibrosis (CF) in Pakistan. Led by global experts from Istanbul’s Marmara University, the comprehensive training sessions successfully brought together multidisciplinary healthcare professionals to address the complex care required for this rare disease.
Renowned pediatric pulmonologists Prof. Dr. Yasemin Gokdemir and Prof. Dr. Bulent Karadag, alongside physiotherapy expert Prof. Dr. Ozge Kenis Coskun, conducted rigorous training sessions.
They covered vital pillars of long-term survival and quality of life for CF patients, including routine clinical follow-up, inhalation therapies, and chest physiotherapy. Noting that CF demands holistic management, significant emphasis was also placed on the critical role of dedicated CF nurses and targeted nutritional interventions, specifically pancreatic enzyme and ADEK vitamin supplementation.
The capacity-building initiative drew widespread praise from leading academic and medical institutions across the country.

Dr. Fatima Mir, Professor of Paediatrics at the Aga Khan University (AKU), highly commended the collaboration organized with the support of IHHN’s Head of Cystic Fibrosis, Dr. Muhammad Fareeduddin. “Indus Hospital is a long-standing academic partner of AKU, and we regularly collaborate in patient care and academics,” Dr. Mir stated, emphasizing that her team attended specifically to update their knowledge and directly improve patient outcomes.

Similarly, Dr. Sehrish, Senior Registrar of the Pediatric Department at LUMHS, noted that the workshop provided an invaluable framework for understanding breakthrough treatments like Trikafta therapy. By equipping local practitioners with cutting-edge global protocols, IHHN continues to spearhead critical advancements in life-saving care.
