The fever came on suddenly, in the middle of an ordinary school day, the kind of day Muhib had known a thousand times before. By evening, his mother Uroosa was watching doctors run test after test, her hands cold, her mind racing toward every possibility except the one she was about to hear.
Cancer.
The word landed on her like a weight she didn’t know how to carry. “It was intolerable,” she says, and even now, the memory sits heavy in her voice, the moment a mother’s world tilts, and nothing that comes after can be ordinary again.
The doctors pointed her toward Indus Hospital & Health Network. She went, not knowing what she would find, only that she had nowhere else to turn.
What she found was a hand to hold through the dark. Beyond the medicine and the machines, Indus wrapped her in something she hadn’t expected, the hospital’s psycho-social support team sat with her in her fear, steadying her when grief threatened to take over, reminding her she wasn’t walking this alone. “After God,” she says quietly, “we sought refuge in Indus.”
Then, slowly, something shifted. Within a single month, Muhib’s body began to respond to the treatment. Colour returned to his face. Strength crept back into his small frame. The boy who had once burned with fever in a classroom was, day by day, becoming himself again, running, laughing, simply returning to the hour of childhood.
Today, watching her son play as though the illness were only ever a bad dream, Uroosa speaks with a gratitude that fills every word. “I am so satisfied with everything, the staff, the care, the environment.” It is the voice of a mother who once feared she was losing her child, instead, found him crawling back into her arms.
Every day, families like Uroosa and Muhib’s find hope at IHHN, quality care, free of cost.
