The Emergency Room (ER) at Indus Hospital & Health Network provides free, 24/7 emergency care to patients of all ages. Equipped with advanced medical technology and supported by a professional triage system, the ER ensures that critically ill and severely injured patients receive immediate attention based on the urgency of their condition. By delivering timely, high-quality emergency care at no cost, IHHN remains committed to saving lives when every second counts.
The latest session of IHHN’s Youth Training Program gave trainees an inside look at one of the hospital’s most fast-paced and demanding departments; the Emergency Room (ER). Through expert-led discussions, a guided tour, and a hands-on simulation, participants discovered what it takes to deliver timely, coordinated care during medical emergencies.
The session began with a guided tour of the Emergency Department, where trainees visited the reception, triage, adult, and pediatric emergency units. They gained a firsthand understanding of how patients are assessed, prioritized, and managed from the moment they arrive at the hospital.
Dr. Uzma and Dr. Saba led an insightful lecture on disaster management, explaining the different types of natural and man-made disasters and the challenges they present for emergency departments. They highlighted how ER teams must constantly adapt to changing situations, often shifting between patients with vastly different medical needs: from oncology and cardiology cases to trauma and critical care.
Drawing from their own experiences, the doctors also shared powerful accounts of responding to the aftermath of a bomb blast in Karachi, offering trainees a glimpse into the resilience, teamwork, and quick decision-making required during mass casualty incidents.
To conclude the session, trainees participated in a practical emergency simulation using a medical mannequin. The exercise demonstrated how to safely transport a patient to the Emergency Room and emphasized the importance of clear, effective communication during critical situations. By experiencing these scenarios firsthand, trainees developed a deeper appreciation for the coordination and composure that emergency care demands.
Embark on a meaningful journey by getting involved in our mission to provide quality healthcare for all. Your involvement can make a significant difference in the lives of those in need. Here’s how you can be a catalyst for change.
