The first day of IHHN’s Youth Training Program brought together 14 passionate trainees from the UAE and the United States for an immersive introduction to the world of compassionate healthcare, philanthropy, and social impact. From hearing inspiring patient stories to engaging with the leadership behind one of Pakistan’s largest healthcare networks, the day laid the foundation for a transformative learning journey.

Welcome & Icebreaking

The program began with an interactive welcome session where all 14 trainees introduced themselves through engaging icebreaking activities and team games. The session encouraged participants to connect with one another, share their backgrounds, and build meaningful relationships that will continue throughout the program.

The Power of Philanthropy

Board members Mr. Khaleeq-ur-Rehman and Mr. Hameed Paracha welcomed the trainees with an inspiring discussion on the true meaning of philanthropy. They reflected on the role of compassion, generosity, and community service in transforming lives while introducing the various volunteering opportunities and initiatives through which supporters continue to strengthen IHHN’s mission.

Patient Story

One of the most moving moments of the day came when cancer survivor Abdul Basit shared his personal journey of healing at IHHN. As a living testament to the hospital’s commitment to providing free-of-cost, quality healthcare, he spoke about the challenges he overcame, the hope he found during treatment, and the life he continues to lead today. His story reminded trainees that behind every statistic is a patient whose future has been transformed through compassionate care.

Introduction to the Pledges

The CRD International team introduced participants to five different pledge pathways that allow them to continue supporting IHHN long after returning home. From fundraising initiatives to raising awareness within their communities, the session demonstrated how every individual can become an advocate for accessible healthcare, regardless of where they live.

The Indus Journey: Vision, Values & Impact

Dr. Farah Bari, Dr. Abdul Bari Khan, and Dr. Zafar Zaidi engaged in an interactive discussion with the trainees, sharing the story behind IHHN’s remarkable journey. They answered thoughtful questions, spoke about the values that guide the institution, and encouraged participants to remain curious, embrace lifelong learning, and pursue careers driven by purpose and service.

Humans of Indus

The trainees also had the opportunity to hear from some of IHHN’s longest-serving team members, whose personal journeys reflected the growth and evolution of the organization over the years. Dr. Aftab Gohar, Head of the Rabies Department, Fehmida Ghani, Head Nursing Staff, Mohsin Ali Bahadurani from CRD Pakistan, and Mr. Imran Jamal, Manager Clinical Operations shared stories of resilience, professional growth, and the deep sense of purpose that has kept them committed to IHHN’s philanthropic mission.

Facility Tour

The day concluded with a guided tour of IHHN’s hospital facilities. Participants explored the new hospital building, including the Emergency Department, inpatient wards, and registration area, gaining firsthand insight into the scale of operations and the patient-centered systems that enable IHHN to deliver free, high-quality healthcare every day.

As Day 1 came to a close, the trainees left with a deeper understanding of IHHN’s mission and the people who make it possible. More importantly, they began to see how their own passion, skills, and commitment can contribute to creating lasting change in communities around the world.
