When Asma joined Indus Hospital & Health Network (IHHN) as a midwife in its Family Medicine facility in Makli in October 2024, it was more than just a job. She has been a part of the facility since it first opened, motivated by the increasing patient satisfaction, “the actual purpose of my job is to save mothers.”

In Pakistan, where maternal morbidity and post-natal mortality rates remain dangerously high, especially in rural areas and villages, Asma’s work is life-saving. Complications during pregnancy and delivery often claim lives unnecessarily, and Asma sees firsthand how essential access to skilled midwives is. She and her team operate on the principle that protecting mothers ultimately protects their babies.

Asma chose to work at IHHN because its values align closely with her own. She shares, “I chose Indus because it is a welfare place, there is no discrimination, and the treatment is very high quality. When I heard they were opening a clinic in Makli, I decided to become part of the network.”

Beyond her clinical responsibilities, Asma believes in the importance of awareness. She feels that students and community members can act as ambassadors for IHHN by sharing information about the range of services available to patients. She also encourages small-scale fundraising initiatives, knowing that donations can save the lives of mothers and children who might otherwise go without care.
