Mohammad Jabbar

When Jabbar fell ill in Quetta, his family believed it was a passing fever. A malaria test came back positive, and they hoped the worst was behind them. But six months later, the fever returned in the form of severe joint pain. The malaria tests were negative. Dark spots appeared on his skin. Slowly, his body began to turn yellow.

Doctors feared it could be blood cancer. A bone marrow test was advised incurring an expense far beyond the family’s means.

Jabbar’s elder brother, Mohammad Saadat, remembers that moment clearly: “we did not know how we would save him.”

They were first guided to Sheikh Zayed Hospital in Quetta, and from there, referred to IHHN’s main hospital in Korangi. After further testing, the diagnosis was confirmed, Jabbar had cancer. His treatment would last eight months.

“The day we heard the diagnosis, everyone went silent,” Mohammad Saadat recalls.

Four months into the treatment, the family’s savings were exhausted. Yet Jabbar’s care did not stop. IHHN stepped in to support the family with transport, meals, and accommodation, ensuring his treatment continued without interruption or loss of dignity.

Jabbar’s brother addresses the donors generously giving to IHHN’s cause, and says, “You became our strength, and did not let money decide whether my brother would live. Everyone who supports IHHN should give Zakat to the hospital for people who cannot afford costly treatment.”

This Ramadan, Jabbar’s story stands as a reminder of what Zakat can become when entrusted responsibly. At IHHN, Zakat is transformed into treatment, dignity, and survival, offering families hope when they need it most.
