Dr. Arif Saleem, a shoulder and elbow orthopedic surgeon from the United States, has completed his medical mission to Indus Hospital & Health Network in Karachi, where he successfully performed five complex surgeries along with the local Pakistani team, including Dr. Kamran. These procedures not only restored mobility and alleviated pain for patients, but also showcased the power of collaboration and innovation in healthcare.
One of the highlights of the mission was the opportunity to bring cutting-edge expertise and implants from the USA, courtesy of Enovis Surgicals, which offers a full range of primary and revision implants for hip, knee, shoulder, and elbow reconstructive joint surgeries. This mission trip built capacity, fostered collaboration, and left a lasting legacy.
“After an electric shock left me with limited mobility in my shoulder three years ago, I couldn’t afford its treatment for so long, but Indus Hospital & Health Network gave me a second chance. I’m deeply grateful to Dr. Saleem, who came to Karachi specifically to help patients like me. I’m looking forward to my recovery and regaining my mobility.” – Shaista Saeed, shoulder patient
As Dr. Saleem reflects on the mission, he is reminded of the immense need for medical care in Pakistan. The country’s healthcare infrastructure faces numerous challenges, from limited resources to a shortage of skilled professionals. This is where volunteers can make a tangible difference.
Dr. Saleem expressed his deepest gratitude to Enovis Surgicals for their support, to Dr. Kamran for his tireless efforts, and to the entire team at Indus Hospital & Health Network for their hospitality and dedication. IHHN is truly making a difference in the lives of countless individuals and families in Pakistan.
