Location“And whoever among you is ill or on a journey [and cannot fast] – then an equal number of other days. And for those who are able to fast with hardship, a ransom (fidya) of feeding a poor person.”
— Qur’an, Surah Al-Baqarah (2:184)
Ramadan is a month of mercy, reflection, and multiplied reward. Yet Islam is a faith rooted in compassion and ease. For those who are unable to fast due to chronic illness, old age, or medical conditions with no hope of recovery, Allah (SWT) has provided a merciful alternative: Fidya. Through Fidya, those unable to fast can still partake in the blessings of Ramadan by caring for those in need. Fidya is an obligation upon individuals who cannot observe fasts permanently and are unable to make them up later. It is fulfilled by feeding a person in need for each fast missed, ensuring that hardship does not prevent anyone from meeting their religious responsibility.
Allah (SWT) reminds us that He “does not burden a soul beyond its capacity” (Qur’an 2:286), and Fidya reflects this divine mercy and balance.
Across Pakistan, countless families struggle with poverty compounded by illness. For them, a single meal can bring relief, nourishment, and hope. Fidya plays a critical role in addressing immediate hunger, supporting vulnerable households, and ensuring that compassion remains at the heart of Ramadan. Indus Hospital & Health Network (IHHN) serves as a trusted channel for your Fidya, ensuring it reaches eligible recipients with transparency and care. With a large proportion of patients belonging to low-income and zakat-eligible households, your Fidya helps provide free treatment, medicines, nutritional support, and essential healthcare, bringing relief to those facing both hunger and illness.
Fidya Amount Guidance
Based on guidance from notable scholars and shuyookh, the estimated Fidya amount is $15 for each fast missed, or $450 for the entire month of Ramadan. Fidya payments are intended to feed one person in need for every day of fasting missed.
Islam places responsibility alongside compassion. If a donor belongs to a low-income household, they are encouraged to first ensure the needs of their own family are met before considering a separate Fidya contribution.

Give Fidya solely for the sake of Allah (SWT), to feed those in need
Fidya reflects the mercy at the heart of Islam, a reminder that Allah (SWT) does not measure devotion by hardship endured, but by sincerity and compassion shown. For those unable to fast, Fidya offers a meaningful way to remain connected to Ramadan, turning limitation into generosity and inability into care for others.
Each contribution becomes a source of sustenance for someone in need, easing hunger while fulfilling a sacred duty. Through Fidya, the weight of hardship is lifted and replaced with dignity, kindness, and reward. It ensures that no believer is distanced from worship due to circumstance, and that every act of mercy is met with Allah’s promise of acceptance and grace.
